Why Hotels In Kampala Are A Popular Base For Exploring Uganda

Uganda is an interesting destination. Africa is still relatively underdeveloped when compared to the west, though Uganda has taken huge leaps in progress over the last decade. Now many tourists choose to base themselves in Uganda’s capital while exploring what this majestic land has to offer. Fortunately, when it comes to lodgings there is an excellent range of hotels in Kampala and the wider area.

Situated in the south of the country, Kampala is known for being one of the greenest cities in the whole of Africa. It is located in a wonderful spot surrounded by seven hills. Though originally settled many hundreds of years ago, today you will find a lively mix of old world charm, and modern development. You will not find the hustle and business too overwhelming as in many cities in this part of the world.



Tourism is an essential component of the economy in Uganda today. The figures show that it contributes more than five hundred million dollars every year to the country’s pockets. This simply would not have happened without a diversity and quality in the accommodation that is offered. You will find that many famous international chains have hotels in Kampala. There is the Holiday Express, Sheraton Kampala, and Grand Imperial amongst other big names.

Once you head out of the city the options become more simplified. When on safari you may be camping but don’t expect this to mean hardship. There are lodges and camps available that offer five star treatment and service. The facilities available when travelling to Uganda is now as good as can be expected in longer established destinations. There is also the option of cheap guesthouses and budget rooms for those travelers with tight purse strings.

You can spend many days exploring the sights and sounds of Kampala itself but even within a short drive of the city there are a number of interesting attractions. For example you could organize a visit to the Kasubi Tombs. These are the centre of traditional Baganda culture.

It is also worthwhile fitting in a trip to the continents only Bahai temple. This is found close to one of the hills and can be reached with a gentle stroll in the early morning or late evening.

You will find that the people in Kampala and the rest of the country friendly and hospitable at all times. No matter how long you plan to stay, you can find accommodation that more than meets your desires.
