A passport is a document that is distributed by the government and is accepted by all nations as an official travel document. This document identifies you and allows you access to enter other countries when traveling. It is also necessary in order to get back into the country. If you are student who is considering traveling you may be wondering how to obtain a passport as a student.

You will not be able to visit other countries without a passport or other travel document. If you desire to do this traveling you will need to learn how to get your passport. However the standard way of getting a passport is to apply for one through the National Passport processing center. This department can be accessed through your post office or the local county clerk’s office. Regardless of where you get the application you will need to follow the instructions on the first two pages of the application.

There are strict guidelines for printing the application. You will need to print a clear, easy-to-read copy of the application. The ink cannot be faded or smeared, and the paper needs to have a matte surface.

In order to process the passport application you will need the proper documentation. This documentation includes proof of residency in the United States. There are several documents that will meet this requirement, a birth certificate, naturalization papers, or a certificate of citizenship. Proper identification will also be needed. This can be in the form of a military ID, a State ID, or a drivers license.

You will also need two photographs from a passport photo center. These can be located at most places that process film. You cannot wear sunglasses, a hat or anything else that may make it difficult to make out the features of your face. This photo can also be taken at the post office when you apply for the passport.

You will also need to have your social security number. If you do not have your card, you can request it from the local social security office. If you have this number memorized then that will suffice, you do not need to present this card, simply have the number.

It is a good idea to look this up before applying for your passport, since the price may change. There is also an option to expedite the process for an additional fee.
