If you are planning to take a trip outside the country, you will need a passport. This article will give you some details on how to get a passport. It is a formal process and can take some time. Plan ahead so you have your passport well before your scheduled trip abroad.
You can download a passport application from the United States State Department website. You can also obtain one from a local post office. The form you are obtaining is a DS-11. When filling it out, read the directions and follow them properly and exactly. Make certain to have the completed form with you when applying for the passport.
The next step is to gather together any proof of U.S. Citizenship. You need to obtain a certified birth certificate from the municipality in which you were born. The certified birth certificate is the ultimate proof of citizenship.
If you do not have or cannot obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate, it makes it more difficult to apply for a passport. You can obtain a letter of no record from the state you were born in. This is an official document stating that there is no birth certificate on file for you. You could also try to obtain a hospital birth certificate, baptismal record, census records, early school record and any record of early doctor care. Another way is to get an affidavit of birth form from an older blood relative who has personal knowledge of your birth. This should be signed and notarized.
If you were born in a foreign nation to one or two United States parents, you need to get a foreign certificate of birth. It would help to also get proof of U.S. Citizenship for your parents. Your parents can also sign an affidavit which lists the places they have resided for different time periods prior to and after your birth. The next step to take in getting a new passport is to prove your identity. This can be proven by bringing with you an old passport, a valid state drivers license, a government ID card, or a military ID card.
The next procedure is to have two photos taken. The photos should be taken in normal clothing. You should leave your head bare and not wear a hat. Also, uniforms should not be worn. Check the Internet or the yellow pages for merchants that do passport photos. These photos should be full face, 2 x 2 size and identical. Most merchants understand the proper requirements, but make certain you are familiar with the requirements also. You do not want the photos taken improperly as this will lengthen the time it takes to receive your passport.
You should also have your social security number. Find out the application fees and any surcharges so you know in advance the total cost. Once you have all this you should be ready to get a new passport.

Make sure all your paperwork is in order before you go as this will help things move along smoothly. Your new US passport should arrive at your home sometime in two months or less. There are 28 people stationed at the South Pole for six months knowing that they will have no sunlight, virtually no contact with the outside world and no way to get away.This crew is responsible for operating the United States’ polar base, which includes manning the research station’s telescopes and other equipment.However, even in this frozen area so far from civilization, modern technology is leaving its mark.

In their stay in Antarctica, the winter-overs are never able to see a tree or go more than a mile from the pole.But everyone is provided a one week vacation at McMurdo Station, which is the main U.S. Antarctic base.While on vacation, the winter-overs can enjoy camping and frolicking on the rocky beach in jeans and t-shirts in the relatively warm 25-degree weather.
