During these evening meals, entertainment, not surprisingly, are made up of Hula shows. Sometimes guests are keen to join in so be prepared to wiggle those hips a little!
For those with energy to spare, there are some great hikes all along the coast and up the cliff sides. Of course, there is also a road to these spots, but as one would expect is such a place, not in the best condition. Also for the very adventurous, try out the helicopter rides. The views are absolutely breathtaking and like nothing ever witnessed before.
One thing that will be observed while walking is that the soil is a reddish brown. It does tend to stain everything so favorite items like shoes or t-shirts should be left back at the condo. All in all, this is a most beautiful place to relax, get some sun, and generally forget about what is waiting back at home!

Ancient Rome was the biggest town in the then known world. It is said that Rome’s population was over 1 million folk when the town was at the height of its power. To start with, many buildings in Rome were built around the forum. Rome itself had some impressive buildings erected in the town. Some exist to this day, all be it in a less wonderful state. The most famed is probably the Colosseum where thousands of Roman voters would gather for their entertainment - be it animals fighting or gladiators and so on. Such grand buildings were constructed so that emperors would be recalled by future generations. The Colosseum was built on the orders of the Emperor Vespasian and finished when the Emperor Titus was in power. The building was finally finished in AD eighty.
Rome also had countless triumphal arches assembled throughout the town to celebrate army victories. These served a twin purpose. First, they were a party of the army victories the Romans had and, second, they were a reminder to the people of Rome of how powerful the division was.
As with any town, Rome had its poor and prosperous areas. The poor could only afford to live in wooden houses which were a heavy fire risk in a hot country like Italy. On a number of occasions, Rome suffered severe damage as a consequence of fires starting in the town’s slums. The slums were also deadly places to go to if you had any money as crime was very common. The Emperor Augustus made a police force to patrol the town but the poor areas remained all but untamed. Alaric moved carefully south but in AD 410 he captured the town of Rome. The town was sacked. In AD 455, Rome got attacked again. This time the damage was done by the Vandals. The town suffered major damage. In AD 476, the last Roman emperor in the west, Romulus Augustulus, was removed from power by Odovacar, leader of the Goths. This date is generally employed by historians as the year the Roman Empire stopped. However , Roman rule continued in the eastern empire for a number of years after this date - in modern Greece, Turkey, the Middle East and northerly Egypt. I am happy to place up our very first guest post! Tracey went to Germany with her husband and baby boy. They rented a house for part of their stay, and they had a fantastic time. Thanks a million for sharing your trip with us, Tracey!
Berlin like a Berliner
Preceding year my husband and I took a visit to Germany with our 8-month-old son. We had extended family there and we believed it was a wonderful time to travel - before the little guy may well walk or voice his displeasure with the choice of activities.
We knew traveling with a baby was going to be different and we would have to make some compromises. The tiny guy had a regular schedule at home and we decided the best thing for our trip would be to maintain a couple of key facets of that schedule. So each day we got to have a chilled breakfast while he had a quick morning snooze. In the day we saw the sites while he happily cat napped in his carrier. And each night we enjoyed a nice home cooked dinner and adult conversation after he went to bed. This worked especially well when visiting with friends and family.
Our trip included stops in Grunstadt, Chemnitz, Nurenberg, Munich, Berlin and Neuschwanstein in the Bavarian Alps. For the majority of our trip we were staying with family. Except for Berlin we were on our own.
So we prepared a goedkoop appartement berlijn instead of a hotel. This gave us a kitchen so we would be able to have a pleasant breakfast each day, and make dinner each night ( although we usually had a late lunch out and did not need dinner ). An appartement huren berlijn also gave us a bedroom in which the small guy could retire each night while we ate, played cards, people watched, for example.
It was easy to find and book a studio at OH Holidays. There had been a wide variety of flats throughout Berlin available for all sorts of budgets. We wanted something in central Berlin and near to the metro with a bedroom, laundry, kitchen, crib, high chair, etc.
Our tiny one bedroom flat was on the fourth floor of an old studio block in the previous East Berlin neighbourhood of Friedrichshain. The building was one of the few in the area that had survived thru WWII and communism and it was full of character. The neighbourhood was a real fun eclectic mix of people and right outside our door were food shop stores, street side cafeterias, restaurants , clubs, shops, coffee, Internet, etc . In the day it was merely a short metro ride to all the key sites. And we in the evening we enjoyed people watching from our balcony.
It was naturally a long walk up those stairs with a baby in a carrier after a long day of sightseeing and there wasn’t any hotel staff or room service at our beck and call. But we had the liberty to make our own meals, do laundry and make ourselves really at home - all at a lower price than most hotels. We felt like we were seeing Berlin from a Berliners point of view.

There aren’t many ways to enjoy exercise these days. Who has the space to move freely? Who has the peace to hear themselves think? How does a person find the place or time to get the exercise they need today? The gym isn’t a motivational place for everyone. Walking a mile through the woods or plains is a different experience from walking on a treadmill for a mile. But not everyone is lucky enough to live by nature. Big cities don’t always allow people the quiet they need to focus or the space they need to exercise, so the only other option is the gym. Those kinds of options don’t get everyone excited to exercise. But the truth is, our bodies need that nitty gritty use once in a while to build basic muscle and support heart health. We were hunters and gatherers much longer than we have been businesswomen and men. Plainly speaking, though our minds tell us to go to the office, our bodies, want to run and jump and move. There is no greater feeling than having an even flow between body and mind. This kind of stimulation is what makes a person happy as well as health.
The problem is, not many people think of going to a ranch when they start feeling the weight of the world upon their shoulders. But they are located all over the U.S., and are very accommodating to families and single persons alike. Montana dude ranches, for example, are some of the best around. The point of a ranch is to go back to a time where the body and mind were both used and both needed, and feel like there is a purpose for both again.
