2010 Soccer Finals Accommodation in South Africa

February 8th, 2010 (9 hours ago)

South Africa is a land of contrasts and variety, making it one of the most strange and awe inspiring countries to visit. Just like the land and its people it too offers a huge variety of accommodation options, getting ready for a diverse spectrum of travelers, and everyone from businessmen, backpackers, families, adventure-chasers and luxury-seekers, will find a place fitting their lifestyle. Accommodation ranges from some of the best world renowned five star hotels in South Africa’s metropolitan areas to bed and breakfasts in the heartland of rural South Africa. Luxury game lodges and reserves are plentiful throughout the land, accommodating the adventure seeker wanting to take in the wild and rustic beauty of the African savannah. Guest houses and bed and breakfasts offer visitors share the warmth and friendliness of their South African hosts. Find below more information on bed and breakfasts and guest houses.

Bed and Breakfasts

There are plenty of private homes throughout South Africa offering cheap and convenient housing in all the major tourism centres, and surprisingly even off the beaten track you’re bound to find a bed and breakfast offering you the same level of hospitality as their more frequented counterparts. For travellers wanting to meet and spend time with local people, this is by far the best way to do so, with your hosts literally sharing their homes with you, therefore providing a keener sense of welcome than would a huge multistoreyed luxurious hotel – nothing like a home cooked meal and a friendly smile to greet you after a long day’s worth of sightseeing…

Guest Houses

A guest house is either a converted house or manor converted to take in overnight visitors or it may be a purpose built facility. Establishments like these are usually managed as commercial operations and are sometimes owner-managed. Guest houses have areas which are for the exclusive use of the guest with the manager either living off-site, or in a separate area of the property. This type of 2010 soccer world cup accommodation remains, like its Bed and Breakfast counterpart, a very popular choice for both local and international visitors.

Will Exploration In Antarctica Soon Cease?

February 8th, 2010 (15 hours ago)

A hundred years ago or so, a whaling ship known as the Antarctic came to a halt off the volcanic, wind-battered coast and sent one of their longboats through the through the rough ocean of the Ross Sea to reach the shore. On January 24, 1895, Captain Leonard Kristensen and the landing party of the “Antarctic” left the first trace of human kind on the frozen continent in their quest to slaughter whales in these, as yet, unclaimed waters.

Antarctica proceeded to be baptized with blood. While seals were being slaughtered for their fur, whales and penguins were being killed for their oil which was then used to grease the machinery developed during the Industrial Revolution. It was on Macquarie Island that countless penguins were rounded up and forced up planks that lead into large pots of boiling oil so that they would fall in and add their own oil to the mix.

However, after 100 years of journeys to this Frozen Continent, humans have decided to stop using it to make a quick buck by killing the animals and have chosen to make Antarctica into a preserve of nature and science. There is even discussions about making a world park on this continent. For science, Antarctica serves as a base for studying pollutant threats that affect the whole world, including ozone depletion and the greenhouse effect. The change to preservation was extraordinarily fast when you think about how short of a time people actually spent exploring Antarctica.Small areas of the coastline, some trails to the South Pole and a few islands were explored up until 1958.antarctic cruise

From the very first, the appearance of men on this continent has resulted in a convoluted story of nationalism, aggression, idealism, and unchecked slaughter, with sporadic, cavalier attempts toward scientific research.Whaling was stepped up in World War I, as refined oil was used to make glycerin for artillery shells.Jet engines required extra-fine oil as a lubricant, which led the Americans and Soviets to seek out sperm whales after World War II.Up until the IGY, the majority of Antarctica was still known as “Terra Australia Incognita,” which is the name given this theoretical southern continent by the medieval map makers.

Antarctica’s first native birth has only recently reached adulthood, the birth itself having international repercussions. As a matter of fact, Emilio Marcus Palmer was born at Argentina’s Esperanza Base in 1978, where his mother was brought for the sole purpose of emphasizing Argentina’s claim to this area of Antarctic territory.antarctic cruise reviews

This was similar to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon nine years earlier and placing the American flag on the moon as a symbol of its dominance. Norway’s Roald Amundsen 1911 race to the South Pole was done explicitly to honor King Haakon VII, and make a direct claim on the territory. For the honor of the British Empire, a similar trek was made by Robert F. Scott and a team of explorers, who themselves, collected and physically hauled rock and fossil samples employing the use of sledges.

It is believed that between the discouragement felt when they found out that Amundsen reached the Pole a month sooner, eating a poor diet, having to haul the rocks and fossils, and utter bad luck caused Scott and his team to perish on the return trip, making them the first people to die in Antarctica for the sake of science.America was able to claim interest in the South Pole when Richard Byrd flew over it in 1929 in a Ford Trimotor airplane. In 1821, the soviets utilized Russian Admiral Thaddeus Bellingshausen’s voyage passed Antarctica in 1821 to justify their interests in the continent.

Finding Accurate Pasport Information

February 8th, 2010 (20 hours ago)

The time has passed when citizens could cross many international borders without the need of a passport. Once, a quick trip to Mexico or Aruba required nothing more than a valid driver’s license and sometimes your birth certificate. They still are not needed for travel to a U.S. Territory, but they are required for almost every other nation. Changes in the law means that there is now much more passport information travelers should know.

One new offering is a passport card. These will fit in your wallet, and cost less than a full passport, or passport book. They are valid only for travel to select nations within the western hemisphere, if said travel is by land or sea and not air. They are useful for cruises to the Caribbean or cross border trips to Canada and Mexico. However, it is best to review the entry laws for the specific nation to which you plan to travel, since some will require further documentation.

In most cases, international travelers need a traditional passport book. This has long been the standard requirement for travel across borders. If you already have a passport and meet all of the requirements, you might be able to get a renewal passport through the mail. It will, however, be necessary to apply in person if this is your first passport or if your old one was issued more than 15 years previously. Personal applications can be made at most post offices and many county offices. These locations are usually more convenient than the regional agencies that the government operates.

Whether applying by mail or in person, you will have to prove that you are a U.S. Citizen and that you are, indeed, who you claim to be. Two good quality color photographs are required, and they must meet certain size and background specifications. The coin-operated booths do not produce the type the passport requires, so you will need to have them taken elsewhere. Some post offices have the ability to take them, as do many of the business service centers that provide shipping and printing services.

You should plan your trip well in advance to allow time to receive a passport. When the passport office is at its busiest, the lead time can be 10 to 12 weeks. At minimum, they need 4 to 6 weeks when things are slow. If you wish, you can pay a fee to have your passport application expedited, which can cut wait time in half.

When you are in a foreign country, be sure and guard your passport. Should it be stolen or lost, report it immediately to the U.S. Consulate or embassy. They can help you obtain another passport or provide the documentation you will need to exit the country and return to the U.S. Since this is not normally an easy chore, you should make every effort to avoid it.

A parent behind on payments for child support may find his or her application for a passport denied. A child may not be allowed to exit the country during a custody dispute. In addition, unless the mother or father has proof of a court decree granting sole custody, both parents must sign a child’s passport application. Every child, even an infant, must have his or her own passport. Getting a passport for a child is not much different in terms of the documentation required. But the parent must also establish proof of the child’s relationship.

Emergency passports can be obtained from regional passport agencies. Applications are only accepted in person. The situation must be a genuine emergency that requires you to travel immediately. You will have to provide the normal documentation, but will also have to provide proof of the emergency. An official death certificate or other acceptable notice may be needed which states what the emergency is and how it relates to you.

The US passport information has changed drastically in the past decade. If you are planning to travel abroad, things will go much more smoothly if you do a bit of research. Examine the precise requirements of the country to which you will be traveling. Make your pasport application well in advance of your scheduled departure. If applying by mail, be sure you include everything required. This should all make it faster and less frustrating to receive your passport.

What To Expect And Watch Out For During Your Visit To The Louvre Paris France District

February 7th, 2010

Every year more than 8.5 million visitors come to view the Louvre Museum in Paris, France to see the second-largest collection of art on the planet. To Paris, art was thought of as a point of pride, a show of grandeur and a vital part of their culture. Here, one will find paintings like Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” Vermeer’s “The Lacemaker,” Delacroix’s “Liberty Leading the People,” Velazquez’s “Infanta Maria Margareta” and Raphael’s “Baltasar de Castiglione.” Travelers staying in Louvre Paris hotels can walk across the way to view astounding sculptures like the “Winged Victory of Samothrace,” “Venus de Milo” and Michelangelo’s “Rebellious Slave.”

The Louvre Paris France district is a gigantic collection of large fortress-like buildings. As well as the palace of the French kings, La Place de la Concorde ( Concorde Square ) was the previous location of the famous guillotine and many beheadings in the French Revolution. Today, there are no slaughtering machines, but rather, an Obelisk given to France by Egypt from the ruins of Ramses II’s temple. Between the Louvre and Concorde Square is the Jardin des Tuileries ( the Tuileries Garden ), which is an awesome Italian style garden with fountains, caves, greenhouses and sculptures. Below the garden is Le Musee de L’Orangerie, with Renoirs, Monets, Picassos and Czannes. Also nearby, visitors can find the Vendome Square, which is the epicenter of fine jewelry on location Paris. Shoppers can also peruse Rivoli Street, the Faubord Saint honour Street and high fashion houses in Victories Square. Le Palais Royal ( the Royal Palace ) is an excellent piece of design surrounded by gardens, columns and colonnades. The financial sector is also found in this area of France, with La Bourse du Commerce ( the Commodity Exchange ) found here. The L’englise Saint Roch Church houses a number of Jesuit art pieces, as well as the bodies of Corneille and Diderot.

Naturally, many travellers want to stay in the Louvre Paris France district, given its proximity to a number of glorious attractions. The closest hotel is the straightforward, two-star Timhotel Le Louvre Paris hotel, which is just 253 meters from this amazing museum. The rooms are plain, but youmay have access to free wi-fi in your room and satellite television. Prices start at $133 / night. The Normandy Hotel is also right on the corner of the Louvre Museum. This three-star building looks rather impressive from the street and offers asimilarly classy, chic interior. Starting at $185 / night, this is one of the nicer three-star hotels in Paris. Located right next door is the four-star Hotel du Louvre Paris, which appears more like a palace than a hotel. Beginning at $277 / night, guests will enjoy marble baths, jacuzzi spas, plush bedding, a fitness center and nothing apart from top-notch facilities. For the richest travelers, the Renaissance Paris Vendome ( $411+ / night ) and Park Hyatt Paris Vendome ( $750+ / night ) feature five-star accommodations in the area.

According to a friend of mine who runs a home based business in the tourism industry guests staying at hotels in Paris regularly choose to take special tours at the Louvre Paris France. For kids and families, tours can be taken based primarily on the following themes. Ninety-minute guided tours for children and families explore the following topics: “Histories and Legends”, “Two by Two” ( youngsters participate in a museum workshop, while elders select a theme for a tour), “The Medieval Louvre” ( tour of the remains of the medieval fortress ), or “Discovery Trail” ( public galleries and hidden strategies ). People can take hour-and-a-half led tours of the whole museum or 90-minute journeys thru the masterpieces, the architecture and the history behind the Louvre. There are special tours for groups, children and disabled visitors to prompt the appreciation of art by all.

How To Get A New Passport Fast Now!

February 6th, 2010

If you are planning to take a trip outside the country, you will need a passport. This article will give you some details on how to get a passport. It is a formal process and can take some time. Plan ahead so you have your passport well before your scheduled trip abroad.

You can download a passport application from the United States State Department website. You can also obtain one from a local post office. The form you are obtaining is a DS-11. When filling it out, read the directions and follow them properly and exactly. Make certain to have the completed form with you when applying for the passport.

The next step is to gather together any proof of U.S. Citizenship. You need to obtain a certified birth certificate from the municipality in which you were born. The certified birth certificate is the ultimate proof of citizenship.

If you do not have or cannot obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate, it makes it more difficult to apply for a passport. You can obtain a letter of no record from the state you were born in. This is an official document stating that there is no birth certificate on file for you. You could also try to obtain a hospital birth certificate, baptismal record, census records, early school record and any record of early doctor care. Another way is to get an affidavit of birth form from an older blood relative who has personal knowledge of your birth. This should be signed and notarized.

If you were born in a foreign nation to one or two United States parents, you need to get a foreign certificate of birth. It would help to also get proof of U.S. Citizenship for your parents. Your parents can also sign an affidavit which lists the places they have resided for different time periods prior to and after your birth. The next step to take in getting a new passport is to prove your identity. This can be proven by bringing with you an old passport, a valid state drivers license, a government ID card, or a military ID card.

The next procedure is to have two photos taken. The photos should be taken in normal clothing. You should leave your head bare and not wear a hat. Also, uniforms should not be worn. Check the Internet or the yellow pages for merchants that do passport photos. These photos should be full face, 2 x 2 size and identical. Most merchants understand the proper requirements, but make certain you are familiar with the requirements also. You do not want the photos taken improperly as this will lengthen the time it takes to receive your passport.

You should also have your social security number. Find out the application fees and any surcharges so you know in advance the total cost. Once you have all this you should be ready to get a new passport.

There are approximately 7000 passport acceptance facilities across the nation. They include county and municipal offices, county courts, post offices, and some public libraries. Make sure all your paperwork is in order before you go as this will help things move along smoothly. Your new US passport should arrive at your home sometime in two months or less. If you are in a rush, and want to know how to get a new passport, here’s a secret: money! You can shell out $60 or more and the government will send it out as a rush. With your new passport in hand, you will be ready to set sail, or take a plane to new and exciting foreign lands!

Your Guide To Working And Settling In Antarctica

February 6th, 2010

You may be surprised to know that Dallas, Texas has something in common with the South Pole: they both reach 100 degree temperatures in July.Granted, the South Pole sees temperatures of 100 degrees below zero, not above. If you were to stand outside naked, you’d be frozen in a single moment.

There are 28 people stationed at the South Pole for six months knowing that they will have no sunlight, virtually no contact with the outside world and no way to get away. This crew is responsible for operating the United States’ polar base, which includes manning the research station’s telescopes and other equipment. However, even in this frozen area so far from civilization, modern technology is leaving its mark.

Astronomers of North America until now have employed satellite communications to work the South Pole observatory’s telescope. This was the first time a South Pole telescope was controlled from a warmer continent.Eventually, it is hoped by astronomers that it will become unnecessary for people to have to man the South Pole stations at all, operating everything remotely instead.affordable antarctica tours

People on Antarctica have to deal with the coldest, driest, and windiest environments on Earth. Its elevation is the highest of the continents, making breathing sometimes difficult. It is due to the extreme cold and high altitudes that only cold-adapted plans and animals can live here. These include penguins, seals, various types of algae and tundra vegetation.

The people who accept the challenge of working through a winter in Antarctica are referred to as “winter-overs.”For entertainment, they have to rely on a large variety of videos, a small exercise room, a pool table, great food, and traditions.Typically winter-overs do not discus what occurs at the South Pole from February to October while they are isolated at the South Pole.antarctica holiday

The notable expansion of the research program at the South Pole has resulted in a constant problem regarding a shortage of electrical power. There are only three oil-burning generators which are not able to produce enough power for all the computers, telescopes, lasers, and other electrical powered equipment. However, they are not able to keep up, which causes the winter-overs to have to deal with insufficient power, as well as confined living arrangements, and cold buildings.

Traditions are fun ways to while away the hours while in Antarctica. One is the “300 Club” which requires a day where the temperature is at least 100 degrees below zero.A sauna is heated up to 200 degrees. Then they enter the sauna, run out into the -100 degree air, and return to the 200 degree sauna.

The crew also looks forward to airdrop.Every June, they receive supplies, mail and, most importantly, food, via an Air National Guard transport that drops them by the palletload.Once the drop has taken place the winter-overs face the chilling air while they rush to use heavy equipment to bring all the treats inside. That single airdrop is the most contact with another person these people get in six months of occupation.

In their stay in Antarctica, the winter-overs are never able to see a tree or go more than a mile from the pole. But everyone is provided a one week vacation at McMurdo Station, which is the main U.S. Antarctic base. While on vacation, the winter-overs can enjoy camping and frolicking on the rocky beach in jeans and t-shirts in the relatively warm 25-degree weather.

Going On Vacation? Renew Your United States Passport

February 5th, 2010

If you are a frequent international traveler, you are no doubt familiar with your passport and how recent it is. Many people, however, do not keep track of such information and then find themselves in a jam when an emergency or vacation comes up and they have no way of traveling. Keep an eye on your expiration date and remember that it can take a while to get a renewed passport. Therefore, when it is about six months from expiring, you know it is time to renew a passport.

The reason why you might need six months to renew your passport is to account for any delays or complications. It is an official document and therefore must undergo a lot of research and processing. It can take quite a while to get it to you. But you should be on the lookout for local passport agencies who sometimes do deals for people in the area. They will have a one day special in order to serve as many people at once as they can for a slightly cheaper rate.

But how do you go about it? Mail is the most common option and can be the most convenient, but not everyone can do this. You can do it by mail if the following statements are true in your case.

Your passport is undamaged and can be submitted via mail with the form. Your passport was issued to you when you were older than sixteen. Your passport was issued to you within the last fifteen years. The name on your passport is still your legal name, or you can show via mail the proper documentation to prove your name change. If all this is true, then you can download Form DS-82 from the travel.state.gov website.

If any of these statements are not true, if your passport was stolen, or if you are applying for your passport for the first time, you must apply in person. To do so, you must first locate a DS-11 form from the same web page. Look at the requirements. There are several types of documentation you have to provide for different situations. Do not go unprepared.

You must present yourself to a Passport Agency or an Acceptance Facility with your form, documentation, and social security number ready to go. You may have to bring with you proof of citizenship, a birth certificate, a marriage license, a naturalization document, and/or your old passport. Take the time to read the directions carefully.

To help you locate these areas, go to the site and look for the search engine or locator. You just have to type in your zip code. This will help you find people or areas near you. Some people may be certified to do it, such as notaries and town clerks.

Note, too, the special renew your passport pages on the web site. Things become a bit more complicated if you are under eighteen years old. There are requirements for sixteen year olds and different ones for seventeen year olds to U.S. passport requirements. If you have any diplomatic or official status, you will also get a specialized passport.

With a renewed passport you can just send in your paperwork through the mail.

Living near a big city will help you get your expedited passport for less. Regional passport agencies are found in cities such as New York, Dallas, Houston, Miami and Philadelphia. These are just a few cities you will find passport agencies in. Check the nearest city to you for listings. The normal procedures for utilizing a passport agency include making an appointment and showing up with the proper evidence of identification and travel.

Of course, if you need your passport within 24 hours you may not have the time to make an appointment in the first place. In this case, you should show up at your nearest passport agency as soon as they open for business and explain your situation with evidence of departure, such as an itinerary for your flight plans.

Make sure you’ve chosen a good company to handle your passport dealings because the wrong company can keep you waiting for a long time for your passport.

Before choosing a pass port expediting service to get your 24 hour Pass Port, make sure you are using a good, reputable company to actually complete your passport needs. Trying to get your passport quick will be stressful enough, having to deal with an irresponsible company is a stress you just do not need.
